Loop brought me on in early 2024 to design the game. The goal was to create a 2-minute daily trivia experience for Samsung TVs made in the past five years. It also had to work as a sponsored ad break on Samsung’s TV Plus (a free live TV service built-in to their TV's).
The Six was originally planned to only be a downloadable game on the Tizen OS app store, but the peeps at Samsung liked the game so much they decided to preload it on every TV. It's also featured prominently on Gaming Hub, the menu on their TV's where..games...are, which is accessible from the main menu of every TV. Crazy!
The six questions each correspond to a colored gem. Answering quickly adds extra points to your score and a title is awarded based on how many points you get, from Noob to Master.
When I joined the project, there wasn’t a theme yet, just a name and the loose direction of "something like the New York Times games." Given that I am me, I thought a flashier and more mysterious vibe would be more engaging, so I pitched the gem concept and it stuck.
The Six launched on smart TV's in summer of 2024. The game has performed extremely well, which led Samsung to start preloading it on their TVs! A game I designed, on every Samsung TV?? Crazy!
Samsung wouldn't divulge details about how many people are playing beyond "a lot of people," which is.. vague but exciting. The Six also won a Shorty Award.
Huge shoutout to the team at Loop (especially Ness, Nick, and Josiah!) for asking me to help with this project and collaborating with me along the way!
